Tampa Palms - Tampa Palms - The Hillsborough Education Foundation named its first finalist for Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year this morning.
Mary Booth, a second-grade teacher at Chiles Elementary, received a surprise visit from the foundation's prize patrol. She has been teaching for the past 15 years.
"I enjoy being with the kids and going in every day to something new," she said. "I'm honored to be named among these other top teachers.
Four out of its seven years in existence, Chiles Elementary has produced a county finalist for Teacher of the Year. The prize patrol has eight more stops to make. Stay tuned to see if any other local teachers make the cut.
