UNIVERSITY AREA - A 3.65-acre site once slated for 72 town homes will become 300 parking spaces for employees of the James A. Haley VA Medical Center.
The hospital recently bought the property, which is bounded by 132nd, 133rd and Livingston avenues and 23rd Street. Contactors began preparing the site this month and expect to complete the project in February, the hospital's public information officer wrote in an e-mail.
The purchase price of the land was $2.5 million, Carolyn Clark wrote.
In spring 2006, CDG Homes, a Palm Harbor-based company, planned to develop a complex, La Entrada, of 1,300-square-foot town homes with three bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms. The project was halted early this year when the housing market took a downturn.
