NORTH TAMPA - Some are educators who passed away after leaving their mark. Some are leaders making a difference. Some are just strange.
They are the name suggestions submitted to the Hillsborough County School District for the MOSI Partnership School. The elementary opened at the Museum of Science & Industry in August under the current name.
School leaders and museum officials assumed that would remain the name and approved the school's Magic mascot based on the name. But district policy allows the public to submit name suggestions for all new schools. Board members will vote on the final name suggestion at Tuesday's board meeting. They can choose from the names submitted or suggest another one.
Many students submitted letters asking for the MOSI Partnership name, but one person sent an e-mail asking the school to be named in honor of Mark Dafeldecker, late husband of MOSI Partnership School's principal. Cheryl Dafeldecker was not involved in the name campaign for her husband; she sent a letter to the district in support of keeping the MOSI Partnership name. Other suggestions from mostly students range from the obvious USF Neighborhood School to the unknown Purkuchen. Here are some other suggestions.
