My husband, Hugh, and I moved to Temple Terrace on Dec. 26, 1959.
We had to wait until after Christmas because our children, Kathy and Ray, were concerned that Santa Claus would not be able to find them if we moved before Christmas.
We raised our children in Temple Terrace. They were schooled at Temple Terrace Elementary, Greco Middle and King High schools. Kathy is married to Dave Bauer. Ray married Karen Pryor and they have two wonderful sons, Tyler and Phillip.
We love Temple Terrace and cannot think of living anywhere else.
Former Mayor Bob Woodard and I were cousins, as our mothers were sisters. I served as a city councilwoman under his leadership. I have wonderful memories of those years. I served as president of the Suncoast League of Cities during my administration and served on the board of directors of the Florida League of Cities. My eight years of service have left me with many fond memories and wonderful friends statewide.
The Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce honored me as Citizen of the Year for 1980-81. I hold this as a great honor and I was proud to serve.
I wrote my first Terrace Talk column July 5, 1989. Today, 18 years later, I am writing my last.
I do not know how to sit back and do nothing, but it's time to slow down and enjoy my family, especially my wonderful husband, more. We will be doing more things together.
I am so proud to have been in a position to acknowledge publicly the many people who work diligently to make our lives better day by day. There are so many of you. I thank you so much for all you do for others who are less fortunate and need help.
I want to thank you for allowing me to come into your homes weekly over the years. I shall never forget the graciousness of our city's residents to me.
I have tried to report the good news, as well as the illnesses and deaths of our residents and about those who needed a little help along the way.
We live in the greatest city in the world. Temple Terrace has wonderful people and a most involved citizenry. The clubs and organizations do tremendous work.
Keep up the good work.
Farewell.
