Three Outings For The Birds

NORTH TAMPA - The Tampa Audubon Society plans three outings this month to help beginning birders and nature enthusiasts improve their knowledge of the outdoors. The events are open to the public.

At 9 a.m. today, Mary Keith and Ann Paul will lead a bird walk at Lettuce Lake Park, 6920 E. Fletcher Ave.. Participants should meet at the Audubon Resource Center in the park.

Sunday, Bill Lamoureaux and Paul will gives tours of Hillsborough River State Park and J.B. Sergeant County Park. Participants should meet at 9 a.m. at the state park, 15402 N. U.S. 301.

On Nov. 25, Keith will lead a walk through Violet Cury Preserve at 1802 Sinclair Hills Road. Participants should meet in the parking lot of Winn-Dixie, 2540 E. Bearss Ave.

Volunteers Needed For River Cleanup LOWRY PARK - Volunteers are needed for the 20th annual Mayor's Hillsborough River & Waterways Cleanup on Nov. 17.

Volunteer groups will work from 8 a.m. to noon at 25 locations on the river and connecting waterways.

Volunteers will meet at the Lowry Park boat ramp, 7525 N. Boulevard, for a complimentary breakfast and lunch. T-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Luncheon Kicks Off Heart Campaign
WEST SHORE - About 100 businesswomen spent their lunchtime Tuesday learning more about their health and how they can help other women in the community.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar hosted the women for the first kickoff for the Sister to Sister National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.

Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft are the honorary chairwomen of the campaign.

Stephanie Amberg, vice president of public relations for OSI Restaurant Partners, and Liana Lopez, director of public affairs for the city of Tampa, are the co-chairwomen. Kristin Passath, vice president of EventMakers, is helping oversee the campaign.

Sister to Sister was founded in 2000 by Irene Pollin, who with her husband owns the Washington Wizards NBA team.

Chamber Holding Networking Events

TEMPLE TERRACE - Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce members and potential members will gather for networking events during the upcoming weeks.

From 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, they will attend a Veterans Day program at Woodmont Park, 415 Woodmont Ave.

From 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday, they will visit the newly remodeled Palm Garden of Tampa senior citizens center, 3612 E. 138th Ave.

From 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 5, they will attend Dr. Dan's Holiday Extravaganza and Networking Event at the office of Daniel Madock, 11406 N. 56th St.

Attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy suitable for a child. The collected items will be donated to the Toys for Tots campaign.

Garden Groups Plan Programs

NORTH TAMPA - A garden club and three plant societies have meetings, which are open to the public, set for next week. They are:

•The North Tampa Garden Club, which will meet 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Piccadilly, 11810 N. Dale Mabry Highway.

•The Tampa Bay Orchid Society, which will feature Keith Emig of Winter Haven Orchid Nursery talking about flasking.

•The Tampa African Violet Society, which will feature Joni Hartzler speaking in general about the violets.

•The Tampa Bay Gesneriad Society, which will feature Mollie Howell making a presentation on plants that go dormant.

Money Benefits Butterfly Garden

TEMPLE TERRACE - The Butterfly Garden Committee at the Meadowood Condos will sell hot dogs, doughnuts and beverages in the community's clubhouse as part of a community garage sale today.

The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meadowood is along Temple Terrace Highway just east of 78th Street.

Brunch Features Holiday Boutique

WEST SHORE - Members of the Pan American University woman and their guests will attend the organization's annual brunch and meeting Nov. 17.

The event will be at the Tampa Airport Hilton, 2225 N. Lois Ave. Nora Lamb and Lucy Herman will handle registration at 9 a.m., when the shopping begins at the more than 40 holiday boutiques. For details, call Nancy White at (813) 831-0535.
