CORY LAKE ISLES - Two residents have applied to fill a seat on the Community Development District board of supervisors, left open when Cory Thomason resigned last month.
The CDD board reconvenes Thursday, but supervisors will wait until January to appoint Thomason's successor.
At this week's meeting, the board is expected to approve a contract with Wilson Miller, the district's engineering firm, to analyze the remaining useful life for Cory Lake Isles' public infrastructure. The study also will recommend how best to establish reserve funds for future repairs.
"The primary reason for the meeting is to continue the discussion of the reserve study," district manager John Daugirda said. The board expects to make its first appointments to a resident task force to aid in the transition from developer control.
Cory Lake developer Gene Thomason chairs the CDD board. His wife, Betty, resigned from the board this year. Son Cory, a longtime appointed supervisor, won his seat in 2006 when it came up for election. Residents didn't know the seat was up for election, and no one filed to run against him.
The person appointed to the seat would serve the remainder of the four-year term, according to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office. Gene Thomason's seat is up for election for the first time in 2008.
The applicants are David Burman, who is retired and has lived in Cory Lake Isles for 2 1/2 years, and Dan Morford, who has lived in the neighborhood for three years.
Burman said his background includes working with developers and various organizations in the real estate field.
"I have an unbiased voice without any influence from the current property owners association, the CDD board or the developer," he said.
Morford, a sales manager who works from home, helped launch a Web forum for homeowners this year. He has 15 years of previous board experience from other community associations. He expects that Gene Thomason will influence the decision.
"I hope he appoints someone who is representative of the homeowners' voice at large," he said.
