Chiles Elementary students can expect a busy December.
The school will kick off the month hosting children's book author Michael Shoulders. He is the author of books "M is for Magnolia" and "V is for Volunteer."
Shoulders, 53, worked in the field of education since age 21 before retiring in 2005. He visits schools across the United States and Europe providing training on literacy issues.
He will meeting the kindergarten, first and second grades Dec. 4.
The school also plans to host its PTA general assembly meeting 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the cafeteria. Immediately following the meeting, students will perform in the annual holiday concert.
The next day Embellish, the school's bell choir, will perform at the Grand Floridian hotel at Walt Disney Word resort in Orlando. Embellish and the Falcon's Pride Chorus will also perform at a school concert Dec. 13.
Chiles' top fourth- and fifth-graders also will compete in the annual 4-H Tropicana Speech Competition Dec. 11.
