Guild Members Get Financial Information

UNIVERSITY AREA - Members and guests of the American Cancer Society's Sword of Hope Guild gathered recently at University Village to hear about managing seniors' financial assets.

They also focused on plans for decorating Hope Lodge at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute for the holidays. The group recently donated $250 to the Making Strides Against Cancer walk.

The organization was founded in 1970 and supports the Greater Tampa Unit of the Cancer Society through service and fundraising, said guild President Trish Fisherman.

Members are from throughout Hillsborough County.

"We would like to be known as ambassadors throughout the community to help provide cancer education," Fisherman said.

Nancy Nethery, area patient service representative from the society, also was in attendance.

Daniel Vanek and Robert Cerrito of Seniors First Financial gave the presentation about wills, trusts, power of attorney documentation and types of income for seniors.

Service League Has Ornament For Sale

TEMPLE TERRACE - The Temple Terrace Service League has its 10th collectible ornament for sale.

Made of 24-karat gold on brass, it commemorates Sutton Hall at Florida College.

The ornament is $15.95 at the Temple Terrace Public Library, 202 Bullard Parkway, and the Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce, 9385 N. 56th St. Information also is available at (813) 986-0066.

A limited number of ornaments from previous years also are available for $13.95 at the same locations. Proceeds benefit local charities.
Miles For Moffitt Gets Title Sponsor

USF CAMPUS - The Bank of St. Petersburg has signed on as the title sponsor for at least three years for the Miles for Moffitt road race.

The event, which includes a 5-kilometer race, a 1-mile walk/run, children's activities, a health fair and other activities, benefits the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Center.

The next Miles for Moffitt will be 7:30 a.m. May 10, starting at the University of South Florida's Sun Dome. Karen Dalton will be the chairwoman for the third time.

Holiday Donations Needed By Agency

SOUTH TAMPA - The Guardian ad Litem program, which recruits and trains volunteers to serve as judicial advocates for children removed from their homes, is sponsoring a gift drive for the children.

13 Ugly Men Planning Party

HYDE PARK - The annual Thanksgiving Eve Party, hosted by the 13 Ugly Men Foundation, will benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Achieve Tampa Bay.

The party will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hyde Park Cafe, 1806 W. Platt St. Dress is casual.

The foundation's 27 members host events to raise money for local charities.

Tickets are $20 and include a Grey Goose cocktail and unlimited turkey pizza. VIP tables are available for $250 to $750.

World Service Topic At Rotary

TAMPA PALMS - Paul Suppicich, community service director for Rotary International District 6890, will speak at Friday's meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.

Suppicich will speak about concepts of the World Community Service program at the 7 a.m. meeting at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
