TAMPA PALMS - The second in a series of workshops for Tampa Palms Visioning 2011, a joint improvement project of the Tampa Palms Community Development District and the Tampa Palms Owners Association, is this morning.
The 10 a.m. public workshop in the Compton Park meeting room is intended to reflect residents' suggestions at the initial Aug. 4 session attended by more than 100 residents. Landscape architects from the Tampa firm of Hardeman-Kempton & Associates asked those participants to help determine the future look of the 21-year-old community.
Architect Ted Kempton, managing partner of the firm, has received input from the five-member CDD board of supervisors and residents and combined it with his knowledge of the community 'to offer some high-level suggestions of things that should be considered,' said CDD employee Maggie Wilson.
Recommended enhancements include improvements and modifications to parks under CDD ownership.
The most significant proposed enhancement is an 'interactive water feature' at Hampton Park in Area 2. The site can accommodate such an addition if the volleyball court is removed, Kempton's recommendations state.
Of the 51 residents who selected amenities from a list of 100 suggestions distributed at the first meeting, a water slide was the front-runner with 25 votes.
Also at Hampton Park, a new covered structure between the pond and the existing building is recommended. Existing playground equipment should be modified to cater more to toddlers, and new equipment for older children should be installed, the preliminary report states.
A new covered structure and new barbecue grills are recommended at Amberly Park, where parking should be expanded, recommendations say.
New playground equipment, resurfacing of the path and benches are recommended for Oak Park.
Kempton is expected to provide cost estimates for the projects, and the CDD probably will request construction documents for desired improvements, Wilson said.
Any proposed improvements to Compton Park facilities would be considered at a meeting of the TPOA, which owns and operates the swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts and community room there.
