THONOTOSASSA - Nine members of Girl Scout Troop 1012 recently completed their Silver Award project through service to the Everyday Blessings Children's Home in Thonotosassa.
The Silver Award is the highest award that Girl Scouts ages 11 to 14 can earn.
For the project, they renovated the nursery at the home, which serves 36 children. They painted, made curtains, reorganized the room and donated several items, including a new television and DVD system. David King, manger of New Tampa Sherwin-Williams, donated the paint. The girls held fundraisers to cover other expenses.
Boy Scout Jonathan Jones is assisting the home with his Eagle Scout service project.
This summer, Jones, a member of Troop 120 at Florida College Academy, read to the children. He also plans to purchase a math computer program and other materials for the home's library.
To raise money, Jones will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to noon today at Florida College Academy, 7032 Temple Terrace Highway. The requested donation is $5 for a wash and $20 for a wash, vacuum and window cleaning.
Jonathan is the son of Jerry and LaVonda Jones of Tampa. For information about his project, call (813) 476-5501.
