TAMPA PALMS - The New Tampa Junior Woman's Club will host an informational meeting for women interested in joining the 2008-09 provisional class.

The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the New Tampa Family YMCA, 16221 Compton Drive. It will highlight the club's mission, its philosophy of volunteerism and social opportunities within the club.

The organization concentrates its efforts in the areas of art, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. It sponsors events including the Night of 5000 formal fundraiser and Fire Safety Day.

Chamber Plans Installation Dinner
NORTH TAMPA - The Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce will hold its 45{+t}{+h} annual installation and awards dinner Aug. 21.

Dottie Iwerks will be installed as president at the dinner at the Museum of Science & Industry, 4801 E. Fowler Ave. The event, which also features the Citizen of the Year recognition, includes a cash bar at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:15 p.m.

Tickets are $40 each or $75 per couple. The reservation deadline is Thursday.

The chamber will hold a new member coffee from 8 to 9 a.m. today at Cafe Kili, 5731 E. Fowler Ave., a new teachers breakfast 7 a.m. Friday at the Dr. Blaise F. Alfano Conference and Banquet Center, 116056 N. McKinley Drive, and an open house and networking social 5 p.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Inn, 12260 Morris Bridge Road.

Leads Club Holding Visitors Day

TEMPLE TERRACE - The North East Professional Women's Chapter of Lassen's Leads Club will hold a Visitors Day at 11:45 a.m. Friday at Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club, 200 Inverness Ave.

The club offers a noncompete arena for members to advertise their services.

Contest Picks Patient At Shriners Hospital

UNIVERSITY AREA - Morgan Kelly, a patient at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Tampa Unit, has won the senior division of 2008 Pre-Teen Florida Scholarship & Recognition Program.

Morgan, who has spinal muscular atrophy, became the first preteen in a wheelchair to win the title since the program was founded in 1990. In addition to a trophy, Morgan received a $1,000 savings bond to apply toward college.

Morgan competed against other girls from Florida in academic achievement, volunteer service to the community, school honors and activities, development of personal skills and abilities, a general knowledge assessment test, communicative ability and onstage acknowledgement of accomplishments.

Morgan, a Patient Ambassador for the hospital, urged others in her speech to treat people with disabilities like everyone else.

Rotary Club To Hear From District Governor

Rotary District 6890 Gov. Beverly Hunt will speak at Friday's meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.

She will talk about her plans to implement the theme of "Make Dreams Real" at the 7 a.m. meeting at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.

The meeting also will feature Seminar for Tomorrow's Leaders participants Ashley Tigue of Freedom High School and Rachel Rakoczy of Wharton High School.

The club is for professional and business leaders who live, work or are retired in the New Tampa area.
