TEMPLE TERRACE - The Temple Terrace City Council will hold a special meeting 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, and is expected to declare a state of emergency in preparation for Tropical Storm Fay, according to a release from the city.
Temple Terrace City Hall will be closed Tuesday, and Tuesday night's city council meeting has been canceled. A decision on whether to close city hall Wednesday will be made later.
Temple Terrace will activate its emergency operations center early Tuesday morning.
Sandbags will be available to Temple Terrace residents beginning noon Monday. Residents will be limited to 10 sandbags each. They will be available at the HART parking area on East 113th Avenue across the street from city hall. Residents should be prepared to make their own sandbags; materials will be provided. City personnel will make sandbags for the elderly and others who cannot make their own. People are being asked to bring proof of residency (driver's license, utility bill, etc.).
If emergency shelters are activated, Temple Terrace residents may go to Pizzo Elementary School, 11701 Bull Run Drive. Those with special needs should go to the USF Sun Dome, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa.
