Catholic Youth Group Offers Breakfast With Santa

NEW TAMPA - St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church will have a breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the church, 9724 Cross Creek Blvd.

The event will include crafts, games and of course pictures with Santa.

The breakfast is sponsored by the church's youth department and is a fundraiser to assist the members in their trip to the National Catholic Youth Conference.

Tickets are $10 per person or $25 for the family, which can include grandparents. Tickets are available at the church.

Feeling Blue? Try A Church Service

TEMPLE TERRACE - Two churches will offer services for those who are hurting this holiday season and experiencing feelings of loss and isolation.

The Blue Christmas Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church, 420 Bullard Parkway, and at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 304 Druid Hills Road.

Bring A Toy To Women's Group

HUNTER'S GREEN - The North East Tampa Women in Business will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Hunter's Green Golf & Country Club, 18101 Longwater Run.

Participants are asked to bring toys for all ages from birth through teens. Monetary donations also will be accepted.

Through Friday the fee for the dinner meeting is $22 for members, $25 for guests. After Friday, the fees increase $3.

Children's Books Needed For Drive

NORTH TAMPA - A holiday campaign, Season's Readings, is under way to provide free books to area schools, nonprofit organizations and literacy programs.

This previously was a Verizon employee campaign but is now open to the public. New or gently used children's books are needed. Verizon Plus stores are collecting for general distribution, and some community centers are collection sites.

The Northeast locations are the Verizon Plus store at 2381 E. Fowler Ave. and the University Area Community Center, 14013 N. 22nd St.

Krewe Events Help Others During Holidays

TAMPA - The Krewe of Shamrock will have an All-Krewe Social from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Margarita Mama's, 615 Channelside Drive.

Admission is a new, unwrapped toy, nonperishable food items or $10. The collections will go to Metropolitan Ministries. For information, call (813) 841-4419.

The Spirit of Cigar City Krewe will have a social from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at CDB Southside, 3671 S. West Shore Blvd.

The krewe members will collect gift cards for the Elves for Elders 2008 Holiday Drive. The program is sponsored by Aging Solutions Inc.

Workshop Designed To Help Parents

UNIVERSITY AREA - It's All About Kids will have a workshop for parents to learn how to help their children develop good reading skills.

The workshop is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at 12520 Tinsley Terrace. The fee is $5, which includes materials and light refreshments.
