TEMPLE TERRACE - Knights of Columbus Corpus Christi Council 7644 has received the distinction of Star Council, the international organization's top award.
The Star Council award recognizes overall excellence in the area of membership, promotion of the fraternal insurance program and sponsorship of service-oriented activities. It was presented recently by district deputy Angel Rivera.
In addition to its support for church activities, the council sponsors a Boy Scout troop, raises money for various charity groups and for 20 years has hosted a Tuesday night bingo session for the elderly.
Garden Club Members Keeping Busy
Members of the Temple Terrace Garden Club will gather today for their Christmas luncheon at the Temple Terrace Garden Club.
They also will go caroling on Tuesday and have their last work day for the year in Woodmont Park on Dec. 17.
The members also gathered at the Woodmont Clubhouse to make Christmas wreaths under the direction of Peggy Blount. Twenty-two wreaths were delivered to Karen Daily at Palm Terrace Residence and Assisted-Living Community. Two wreaths were delivered to the LifePath Hospice House.
Chamber Luncheon Has Hoedown Theme
NORTH TAMPA - Members and guests at this month's Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce luncheon will have a chance to share their 2008 successes.
The meeting at 11:45 a.m. Dec. 17 will feature a hoedown-style theme and include members' reports on positive things from the year and goals for 2009.
The event will be at the Dr. Blaise Alfano Conference Center, 11606 McKinley Drive. Attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for a drive sponsored by the Temple Terrace Kiwanis Club, Live@Home and the Tampa Bay Technical High School Key Club. The toys are for the Children's Miracle Network and local hospice patients.
The luncheon is $15 with reservations needed by noon Friday by calling (813) 989-7004.
Holiday Stress, Grief Topic Of Program
Grace Terry, a licensed social worker and family services counselor, will present a free workshop and discussion, "Peace on Earth: Managing Holiday Stress & Grief," from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Dec. 18.
Both presentations are at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, Terrace Oaks Chapel, 12690 N. 56th St. Reservations are requested by calling (813) 988-9200.
Zimbabwe Topic Of Presentation
TAMPA PALMS - Munya Chiura, a member of the Rotary Club of New Tampa, will speak at Friday's club meeting.
Chiura's topic will be "Zimbabwe - On the Road to Peace" at the 7 a.m. meeting at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
