HUNTER'S GREEN - Four members of Boy Scout Troop 148 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church were recognized recently at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for achieving the highest rank in the organization.

The Dec. 16 ceremony at the church honored Erik Chistensen, Brian Guidry, Alex Presse and Austin Shin.

Scoutmaster Joel Novatne introduced the Eagles, and former Scoutmaster Ray Blackridge administered the Eagle Oath. The Rev. Edward Lamp of the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital presented the invocation, and Gulf Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America vice president Bill Guglieimi participated.

Chistensen, 18, of Pebble Creek, is the son of Ken and Loraine Christensen. He is a senior in the International Baccalaureate program at King High School. For his project, he rebuilt a bicycle bridge in Morris Bridge Park to accommodate the park rangers' all-terrain vehicles. He hopes to attend the University of Florida to study engineering.

Guidry, 14, of West Meadows, is the son of Rita and Tim Guidry. He is a freshman in the IB program at King. For his project, he refurbished a horse shed by removing the walls and replacing them with freshly painted ones for Traverse, a therapeutic, equestrian program. The program assists children who have suffered trauma or loss and live in confusion or isolation. He hopes to attend the University of Notre Dame and study law.

Presse, 17, is the son of Jim and Heide Presse of Tampa Palms. He is a junior at Jesuit High School. He built a post and rope fence on the property of Mary Help of Christians Center. The fence is to protect a newly planted orange grove. The crop will be used to assist with funding of the center. He hopes to attend a Florida university to study engineering or architecture.

Shin, 14, is the son of Ken and Jenny Shin of West Meadow. He is a freshman in the IB program at King. He created a food and hygiene item pantry, called the Cabinet of Hope, for the Mental Health Community Centers Inc. in Sarasota. Two churches have assisted in stocking the cabinet.
