The New Fire District of the Boy Scouts' Gulf Ridge Council recently held its annual Camporee at McGregor Smith Scout Reservation near Inverness. There were more than 150 participants.

The event, Feb. 8-10, included black powder rifle shooting, tomahawk and knife throwing, archery, blowgun shooting, orienteering, lacrosse, Indian ball and a buffalo chip toss.

Scouts observed blacksmithing demonstrations and historical presentations on the life of Seminole Indians. Webelos also "crossed over" to Boy Scouting by walking across a rope bridge, built by the Scouts of Troop 189 from Forest Hills United Methodist Church, and being greeted by their new Scoutmasters.

The top units at the Camporee were: Troop 142, St. James United Methodist Church, first place; Troop 189, Forest Hills United Methodist Church, second place; and Troop 180, New Tampa Baptist Church, third place.
