UNIVERSITY AREA - In the past year, Kingdom Worship Center has distributed more than 100 bicycles, 1,500 turkeys, boxes of foods, bags and clothes and a car to those in need.
The nondenominational Christian church, led by co-pastors the Rev. Robert Fruster and his wife, the Rev. Brenda Fruster, celebrated its first anniversary in November. It started with 15 members and now has about 200 attending Sunday morning services at Embassy Suites on the University of South Florida campus.
"It's been a long haul, but it's been a good year. We can now see a ray of hope," Brenda Fruster said.
Her husband said the church has been able to help so many because it has partnered with companies and other organizations.
"We know the church can't do it by itself," he said, adding that he connects private businesses, government services, nonprofit agencies and faith-based institutions.
The church also conducts outreach ministry, visiting nursing homes and feeding the homeless. Many church members volunteer for the projects.
"Everybody wants to be a part of something. We are not sitting so high that we can't come out and get our hands dirty or hug a homeless person," Brenda Fruster said.
