TEMPLE TERRACE - They made headlines five years ago and were back in the news this year when their reward money couldn't be found.

Jarvarious Jones and Oscar Carter did a good deed in 2002 and were finally old enough to collect the reward money this year. The then-13-year-olds found $4,000 in cash near their Greco Middle bus stop and turned the money over to authorities.

Their actions made them instant heroes. People sent rewards to Greco for the boys. Greco leaders deposited the money into an account that could be withdrawn when they turned 18, but when Carter came looking for the cash, no one could find the money.
The incident left Carter thinking twice about his good deed.
"I could have used that money to get clothes, pay some bills and help my family," he said in a June interview. "But I did the right thing, and now people aren't helping me. I've learned not to trust anyone."
Media attention sparked interest in their case, and accounts with about $2,600 were found.
