NORTH TAMPA - Many organizations and business helped others during the holiday season by bringing gifts, food, money and warm wishes.
Among the donors were:
•The Florida State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, which presented a check for $10,000 to the Haley House. The facility, staffed by volunteers, provides housing for families of those receiving treatment at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center.
The presentation was made by Sue C. Bratton, the organization's state regent; Mary Bearss, parliamentarian; Roberta Schofield, Haley House chairwoman; and Pam Hinds, the organization's representative to the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. It is the second check for $10,000 given by the women.
•The Progressive Insurance call center in its Pennies for Pets employee fundraiser. The project raised $2,500 to assist victims of domestic violence in offsetting the costs for care of pets.
Many victims of domestic violence have to leave their pets behind if they have to enter a shelter. They are taken to animal shelters or left with friends or family.
Five hundred dollars went to an animal shelter, and $2,000 was given to The Spring, a domestic violence shelter. The presentation to The Spring's interim executive director, Jim Brace, was made by Katie Tyler and Yolanda Rivera-Lugo.
•The Employees Activities Committee at Seminole Electric Cooperative, which donated $3,073 to LifePath Hospice.
The money was raised through an auction and other activities. Members of the committee also heard a presentation from Amanda Maynor, LifePath Hospice special events coordinator.
Betty Vega, a Seminole Electric employee and volunteer for the hospice, brought the hospice to the attention of her co-workers.
•The Rotary Club of New Tampa, which raised more $1,000 to help three local families.
The money was collected during a meeting at Mort Elementary School. Club members donate money to share their good news with others in their Happy Dollars fundraiser.
At the meeting, the school's chorus, The Manatee Melodies, performed. It is under the direction of Matthew Stone.
Also at the meeting, Jim Parker and Adi Khorsandian were inducted as members, making the club membership 90 people.
