Woman's Club Seeking Photographs For Guide's Cover

TEMPLE TERRACE - The Temple Terrace Woman's Club is sponsoring a photo contest for the cover of the 43rd Temple Terrace Guide.

Sylvia D'Aloia is the coordinator of the project, which is limited to pictures of Temple Terrace.

The contest is open to anyone, and there is no entry fee. Photographs or graphics must by submitted by Feb. 15. Members of the club will judge the contest.

The 2007 cover shot, by Lani Czyzewski, is of azaleas at the Billy Graham Park overlooking the Hillsborough River.

Kickoffs Planned For Pirates Season

CHANNEL DISTRICT - The Gasparilla season is gearing up with krewes planning parties, buying beads and checking their costumes in preparation for the parade Jan. 26.

The lead-up events include:

•Dragon Party Kickoff Event, sponsored by the Krewe of Brigadoon. The party will be at 7 pm. today in the Velvet Room of Margarita Mamas, 615 Channelside Drive. It will include appetizers and drink specials. Admission is $10.

•The fourth annual Trade Goods Social, sponsored by the Rough Riders. The event is at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Velvet Room of Margarita Mamas, 615 Channelside Drive. Krewe members are invited to bring new trading beads and pins. For details, e-mail Darren McClain at darrenmcclain@aol.com.

•An all-krewe social, sponsored by Spirit of Cigar City in celebration of the group's first appearance in the Gasparilla Parade of Pirates. The event is at 5:30 pm. Thursday at Hattricks, 107 N. Franklin St. For details, e-mail Victoria Cain-Stull at vcainstull@yahoo.com.

An all-krewe social, sponsored by the Krewe of F Troop, will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Jackson's, 601 S. Harbour Island Blvd., Suite 100.

•The Gasparilla Eve annual party, sponsored by the Rough Riders, is from 6 to 11 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Embassy Suites, 513 S. Florida Ave. A buffet will be served from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Otis and the Old School Band will perform. Tickets are $35 and available at www.tampa-rough riders.org.

Pan Am Women Making Donations

PALMA CEIA - The Pan American University Women will present $1,000 checks to four charities at their meeting Jan. 19.

The 9 a.m. breakfast event will be at the Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, 1601 S. MacDill Ave.

Representatives from the charities will give an overview of their programs. The presenters are: Kelly Nelson of the Judeo Christian Health Clinic; Chantal Hevia of the Ybor City Museum Society; Elaine Diaz and Susie McLennan of Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy; and Mary Ann Massalio of the Children's Cancer Center.

Nuri Ayers, Pan American University Women president, and Judy Blanco, president-elect, will present the checks. Nora Lamb is the hospitality chairwoman for the event. RoseAnne Bowers and Rose Ciccarello are the special projects co-chairwomen.

Gesneriad Society Meets Jan. 19

WEST TAMPA - Mollie Howell will present a program on achimines at the meeting Jan. 19 of the Tampa Bay Gesneriad Society.

Haitian Association Holding Event

WEST TAMPA - The Haitian Association Foundation holds a cultural evening at 6 Jan. 19 at Cafe Mango, 4235 N. Armenia Ave.

Tax Amendment Topic At Rotary

TAMPA PALMS - State Rep. Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, will speak at Friday's meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.

He will talk about the proposed property tax amendment on the primary ballot at the 7 a.m. meeting at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
