TAMPA PALMS - Voters registered in one of New Tampa's largest precincts must visit a new location Tuesday to cast a ballot in the Florida presidential preference primary.
The polling site for Precinct 359, which lists 3,456 registered voters, has been moved to Family of Christ Lutheran Church, 16190 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. It had been at St. James United Methodist Church, 16202 Bruce B. Downs.
A church spokesman said religious services and the many other St. James activities made it impossible for the facility to accommodate voters during the upcoming election, according to Angela Chafens, polling site coordinator for Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Buddy Johnson. "We've been there for years and years," Chafens said of St. James, adding that it was already a polling site when she began working in the elections office in 1997. "Fortunately, there's another church just a stone's throw away."
The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
