The Joint Policy Board for Mathematics has announced a contest to find the video that best conveys the Mathematics Awareness Month 2008 theme: "Mathematics and Voting."
The topic of submitted videos should be "What Math and Voting Mean to Me," and the producer of the winning entry will receive a $500 prize. The contest was devised to add a new dimension to the activities of Mathematics Awareness Month, which is April. For details, visit www.mathaware.org.
The board encourages participants to use music, humor and other elements in creating the video to express what they feel about the topic of math and voting. Each video may be up to three minutes in length. Judges will select the winning entry based on creativity, how well the message is conveyed, entertainment value, quality and relevance to the "Math and Voting" theme.
All videos must be submitted via YouTube at www.youtube.com/group/mathaware by April 30, and viewers may vote once a day until the contest ends May 15. The contest winner will be announced June 1 at www.mathaware.org and www.amstat.org.
