New Tampa Noon Rotary Club Installs Officers

NEW TAMPA - Allen Ames, outgoing president of the Rotary Club of New Tampa Noon, recently installed the club's officers for 2008-09.

They are Lori Hakeem, president; Ralph Argen, president-elect; Valerie Casey, secretary; Angela Garrett, treasurer; and Scott Hileman, sergeant-at-arms.

At the July 2 meeting, Ames also presented a check from the club to Jeff Sukup of the Personal Energy Transportation Project, which manufactures and gives hand-powered wheelchairs to needy people in third-world countries.

Ames also gave special recognition to Chuck Lewandowski, a past president; Hakeem, who served as secretary; Jeff Ulbrich, who served as sergeant-at-arms; Donna and Louie Sinudom, owners of Circles New Tampa Bistro; and Evan Lewis, the lunch server.

The Rotary Club of New Tampa Noon meets at noon Wednesdays at Circles New Tampa Bistro, 19651 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. Alan Feldman of Project C.U.R.E., or the Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment, will speak at next week's meeting.

Hurricane Prep, Movies Planned

NORTH TAMPA - The North Tampa Family Support & Resource Center, 1401-A E. Fowler Ave., will begin a series of free Family Movie Days, starting today.

The movies, which include "The Ant Bully," "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Brother Bear," will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Reservations are not needed.

The center also will have a free Hurricane Preparedness Workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. A representative of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross will talk about how to create a disaster plan and what is needed in a hurricane preparedness kit. Reservations are not needed.

Garden Groups Plan Programs

TAMPA - Plant-growing groups will hold meetings this month, which are open to the public free of charge. They are:

• The Tampa Bay Orchid Society, which will have a presentation by Brian Monk of Blu Llama Orchids on orchid photography.

The meeting is 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Seminole Heights United Methodist Church, 509 E. Hanna Ave. For details, call (813) 310-7676.

The Tampa Bay Gesneriad Society, which will feature a presentation by Phyllis King on chrysothemis.

Chamber Plans Luncheon, Social

HUNTER'S GREEN - The Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly luncheon 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Hunter's Green Golf & Country Club, 18101 Longwater Run Drive.

A representative of the Hillsborough Small Business Information Center will speak.

The chamber will hold a networking social from 5 to 7 p.m. July 24 at Mercantile Bank, 9400 N. 56th St. It will feature prizes, hors d' oeuvres and wine.
