TAMPA PALMS - Two debutantes were introduced recently at an 1860s-themed ball sponsored by the Augusta Jane Evans Wilson Chapter 2640 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

The event at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club raised more than $1,100 for hurricane-ravaged Beauvoir, the final home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, in Biloxi, Miss.

The women introduced were:

Katherine Isabel Ranscht, daughter of David and the late Tamara Ranscht. She is a nursing student at Hillsborough Community College and was escorted by Phil Walters.

Stephanie Alyse Queen, daughter of Ron and Sandra Queen, who was escorted by her father. She will study premedicine at the University of South Florida.

The event also commemorated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Davis. The ball included period dancing with a caller and music by Mason Dixon.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy was founded in 1896 and is dedicated to history, education, benevolence and patriotism. The Augusta Jane Evans Wilson Chapter 2640 was chartered in April 2004 in Temple Terrace.
