NORTH TAMPA - Pepsi Bottling Group is building a towering warehouse at its plant on North 30th Street.
A latticework of steel girders rises about 100 feet at the Pepsi distribution plant at 11315 N. 30th St., south of Fowler Avenue.
A Pepsi Bottling Group spokesman said the structure is the framework for an automated storage and retrieval system.
"It will be a modern warehouse equipped with state-of-the-art technology," said Jeff Dahncke, director of public relations for Pepsi Bottling Group in Somers, N.Y.
He said the warehouse will allow for greater efficiency at the distribution center, employing robotics to move pallets up and down a conveyor system.
When work on the warehouse is completed near the end of the year, company employees will be able to stack thousands of pallets of Pepsi-Cola products for storage until time for distribution.
Dahncke said it was against company policy to reveal the price of the warehouse project.
The 47-year-old bottling plant and warehouse produces millions of cases of Pepsi, Mountain Dew and other Pepsi-Cola products each year.
