NEW TAMPA - The Hillsborough County school board is expected to appoint new principals Tuesday for Wharton High and Benito Middle schools.
There are seven applicants for the Wharton position: Michael Rowan and David Sheppard, both assistant principals at the school; Scott Rudes, assistant principal at East Bay High School; Brad Woods, assistant principal at Middleton High; Hilda Genco, assistant principal at Sickles High; Christopher Stone, principal at Montour Middle School in Pittsburgh; and Sharon Ebbert, a retired principal from Lake County.
Genco and Stone also have applied for the Benito position. Other candidates include middle school assistant principals Holly Eckstein, Mulrennan; Marcos Murillo, Webb; Ronnie King, Buchanan; Anna Voida, Shields; Lucy White, Liberty; Janet Roland, Buffalo Creek in Manatee County; Keith Fantauzzo, Martinez; Connie Hicks, Dowdell; John Sanders, Young; and Dywayne Hinds; Ferrell. Other candidates are Steven Houle, an assistant principal and coach at Riverview High School; Henry Buford, principal of Carl Sagan Academy; Mark Sanders, an assistant principal at East Juniata High in McAlisterville, Pa.; and Eric Palmu, a substitute teacher in Pinellas and Manatee counties.
Wharton High Principal Scott Fritz left the school district to work for former Hillsborough County Assistant Superintendent Mike Grego, recently appointed superintendent of Osceola County. Fritz became Wharton's principal in March 2007.
Bobby Smith left the Benito principal's position in early July for an education position in Pasco County. He had been at Benito since March 2005.
