Interest Up To Lead Live Oak

Published: June 14, 2008

LIVE OAK PRESERVE - An Oakwood Village resident appointed Tuesday to the Live Oak I Community Development District Board of Supervisors is making plans to seek an elected seat on the board in November.

Kurt Callarman, president of the Oakwood Village Homeowners Association, said he plans to file the necessary paperwork and pay the qualifying fee Monday.

Live Oak I supervisors appointed Callarman to fill a post that expires in November and chose to leave open a remaining seat set to expire in 2010.
Board Chairman Rick Feather, whose seat is up for election in November, said he intends to resign before the next meeting July 15, to give the board time to consider appointing him to the vacancy. Feather, an Engle Homes employee, is ineligible to run for an elected supervisor's spot.

Engle executives have expressed interest in keeping at least one spot on the board.

Dennis DeMott, another Engle employee, also was appointed Tuesday to fill vacancies on the Live Oak II and Hammocks CDD boards.

But the seat filled by Callarman drew the most interest. Two other Live Oak I homeowners - Earl Myers Jr. and Scott Keen - made presentations to the board for consideration.

Supervisor Mike Ceparano nominated Callarman, 43, owner of Crown Trophy on Cross Creek Boulevard, to fill the post.

"I know him; he's very active" in the community, Ceparano said.

No other nominations were made, and Callarman received unanimous support from the board of supervisors: Ceparano, Feather and Michael Mulvihill.

Callarman was sworn into office and took his place on the board immediately.

To run for an elected CDD seat in November, candidates must pay the $25 qualifying fee at the county elections office by Friday.
