UNIVERSITY AREA - Skipper's Smokehouse will host two concerts with proceeds to benefit local organizations.
The 12th annual Scratch My Back Concert will be Sunday to benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and to raise awareness of animal abuse. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and the music starts at 5 p.m. with a performance by The Quivering Rhythm Hounds.
At 6:15 p.m., Sharon and the Boys, featuring Sharon Taylor from WFLA, 970 AM, will perform. The Johnny G. Lyon Band is the headliner from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Steve Otto from The Tampa Tribune and "Party" Marti Ryan of Hillsborough County Animal Services are the emcees.
Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. Children 10 and younger are admitted free.
The first Summer Blues Bash will be from 2 to 7 p.m. June 1, with the music starting at 3 p.m. It will benefit the Children's Home Society. Steve Persnell and Marvelous Martin will be the emcees for the event.
Performers include Bob Margolin, Ronny Elliott, Dukes of Juke, Charlie Vegas and the New Blues Combo, and Sandy Atkinson and the Revelations. A silent auction is planned.

Buddy Johnson To Speak At Meeting
NORTH TAMPA - Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Buddy Johnson will speak at Tuesday's meeting of the Temple Terrace Republican Club.
The meeting will be at the Dr. Blaise F. Alfano Conference Center & Banquet Facility, 11606 McKinley Drive. Registration starts at 6:15 p.m.; dinner is at 6:45 p.m. The cost is $18 for members and $20 for guests. For reservations, call Nancy Schild at (813) 335-4850.
Symposium Geared Toward Musicians
YBOR CITY - The Artists and Writers Group will host a series of free workshops June 7 for emerging and seasoned musicians.
The symposium, called Homemade, will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Performing Arts Building on the Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus at 14th Street and Ninth Avenue. It is organized by the Bay Area Artists and Musicians Organization and funded with an Ybor City Development Corp. grant.
The focus will be on self-promotion. Presenters include Ronny Elliott, Stan Arthur, John McEwen, Judy Tampa, George Pappas, Denise Moore, Maggie Council and Keith Arsenault.
The symposium will be followed by a performance showcase from 5 to 10 p.m. throughout Ybor City.

Juniors Deliver Gifts To Teachers
TEMPLE TERRACE - Four members of the Temple Terrace Junior Woman's Club recently delivered gifts to teachers at eight Temple Terrace area schools.
The gifts, pens on which were printed "You Are a Shining Star," were presented as part of Teacher Appreciation Week to teachers at Lewis, Temple Terrace and Riverhills elementary schools, Florida College Academy, Corpus Christi School, Christ Our Redeemer School, Greco Middle School and King High School.
The gifts were delivered by Jeannie Waterman, Kelly Easom, Midge Raush and Michele Prado-McCary.

Celebrate Sinatra Set For Academy
BAYSHORE - The 11th annual Celebrate Sinatra will feature dancing to the 14-piece Joe Stagi Orchestra with vocals by Tom Tiratto.
The event, presented by Ken Walters Promotions, will be from 9 p.m. May 31 to 1 a.m. June 1 at the Academy of the Holy Names Ballroom, 3319 Bayshore Blvd. The black-tie-optional event will include a "Rat Pack Lounge" with an open bar.
Tickets are $75 and include hors d'oeuvres. Reserved tables for four are $500, and tables for six are $750. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Mental Health Care Foundation.
