Pedestrian Hit On Fletcher Ave. Near Palm Ave. Has Died

TAMPA - An 18-year-old University of South Florida student died after being struck by a car Tuesday night, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Jessica Palmer was running across East Fletcher Avenue near North Palm Avenue about 8:50 p.m. when she was struck by a 1993 Volkswagen, the sheriff's office said.

Palmer did not use a crosswalk, the sheriff's office said. She was transported to Tampa General Hospital.

The sheriff's office said this morning that Palmer's injuries were not life-threatening. However, this afternoon, the sheriff's office confirmed that Palmer had died.

The driver, Sharon Sanchez, 25, of Dade City, was not hurt. The sheriff's office said no charges are expected.
