New Tampa Rotary Gets Rolling With Annual Casino Night

TAMPA PALMS - The Rotary Club of New Tampa will host its third annual Casino Night and Charity Auction on Oct. 11 at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club.

The event, open to the public, will feature appetizers, drinks, a live and silent auction, and Las Vegas-style games.

The event is at 6:30 p.m. at 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd. Dress is business casual.

Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door. Proceeds benefit charities, schools and Rotary-sponsored programs. For tickets, call Karen Tillman-Gosselin at (813) 629-1502.

Jose Martinez will speak about "Understanding Reverse Mortgages" at 7 a.m. Friday during the club's regular meeting at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club.

Mayor Iorio To Visit Kiwanis

Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio will speak Oct. 8 to the Kiwanis Club of New Tampa about issues facing the city.

The event, open to members and guests, will be at noon at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.

Juniors To Host Fire Safety Day

The New Tampa Junior Woman's Club will host its sixth annual Fire Safety and Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at Tampa Fire Rescue Station 20, 16200 Bruce B. Downs Blvd.

The event includes a firetruck, police dog demonstrations, an arts and crafts table, food and beverages.

Waterwise Gardening Topic For Meeting

TEMPLE TERRACE - Maria Carver will speak about "Waterwise Gardening" at Wednesday's meeting of the Temple Terrace Garden Club at Woodmont Clubhouse, 415 Woodmont Ave.

The meeting, open to the public, will begin with a coffee at 9:30 a.m., and the program is at 10 p.m.

Steve and Jean Grace of Grace's Hydroponics will speak at the Oct. 21 meeting, which will be at 7 p.m. at Woodmont Clubhouse.

NFL Commissioner Featured At Luncheon

DOWNTOWN TAMPA - NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will speak at the Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee Luncheon on Oct. 13 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel, 700 S. Florida Ave.

This begins the countdown to Super Bowl XLIII, set for the Feb. 1 at Raymond James Stadium. The host committee is chaired by R.A. "Dick" Beard III.

The luncheon is at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $55 per person or $500 for a table for 10. Ticket order forms are available at www.tampabaysuperbowl.com.

Events Go To The Dogs

NEW TAMPA - Pug Rescue of Florida and Lost Angels Animal Rescue will host an adopt-a-thon at Muvico Starlight 20, 18002 Highwoods Preserve Parkway, in conjunction with the premiere of the movie "Beverly Hills Chihuahua."

The event will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Grace Episcopal Church, 15102 Amberly Drive, will host the Graceminster Dog Show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The event will include the blessing of animals from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m.

Admission to the dog show is $5 per family, including pets. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and the Greyhound Gang. For details, call (813) 971-8484.

Fitness, Wellness Focus Of Meeting

TEMPLE TERRACE - Scott Andrews, fitness leader with the Temple Terrace Parks and Recreation Division, will be the speaker at Thursday's meeting of the Friends of Temple Terrace Parks and Recreation.
