TEMPLE TERRACE - The organizers of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life - Temple Terrace will hold an ice cream social to offer early registration for the fundraiser.
The registration will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Temple Terrace Public Works Building, 11210 N. 53rd St.
The 2009 relay will be March 27 and 28 at Greco Middle School, 6925 E. Fowler Ave. and has the theme Mark Your Calendar for a Cure. Teams will decorate their campsites to depict a holiday, season, birthday or any event that happens during a year.
Sixteen teams have registered, and committee members are being recruited. The event chairman is Russ Oberbroeckling.

Susan MacManus To Address Chamber
NORTH TAMPA - Political expert and author Susan MacManus will speak about "Election 2008 - Florida, A Battleground State Again" at the Sept. 11 meeting of the North Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

Garden Club Opens New Club Year
A discussion of the upcoming year's programs, field trips and projections is planned for the first meeting of the new club year of the Temple Terrace Garden Club.
The meeting will be 9:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Woodmont Clubhouse, 415 Woodmont Ave. A covered-dish luncheon will follow.

Friends Group Meets Thursday
The Friends of Temple Terrace Parks and Recreation will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Temple Terrace United Methodist Church, 5030 E. Busch Blvd.
Mary Jane Neale, a candidate for Temple Terrace City Council, will discuss environmental and recreational issues, and Ed Nesman, a retired University of South Florida professor, will talk about Echo, an interdenominational Christian organization dedicated to fighting world hunger.

Krewes Plan Sept. 13 Parties
TAMPA - The Caribbean Cowboys and the Krewe of Pandora hold annual events Sept. 13.
The Cowboys will have their Queen Betsy "Bead Barn" Lee's Captain's Party from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Dr. Blaise F. Alfano Conference & Banquet Center, 11606 N. McKinley Drive. The dress is tropical casual.

The Krewe of Pandora will hold its seventh annual Goddess Induction Ball at 6:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites, 513 S. Florida Ave.

Volunteers Needed For Cattle Barons' Ball
SOUTH TAMPA - The executive committee of the American Cancer Society's Cattle Barons' Ball will hold a roundup of volunteers for various committees.
The free event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Brands, 1810 W. Kennedy Blvd.

TAMPA PALMS - Bill McGillis, executive associate athletic director for the University of South Florida, will speak at Friday's meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.
McGillis' appearance is at 7 a.m. at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
The club is for professional and business leaders who live, work or are retired in the New Tampa area.
