Chief On Indefinite Leave From Temple Terrace Police

TEMPLE TERRACE - Police Chief A.L. "Tony" Velong is on leave from the Temple Terrace Police Department, which he requested for personal reasons, according to a release from the city.

Deputy Chief Patricia Powers has been named acting police chief.

Velong, 61, did not say how long he anticipates being away from the department. He became Temple Terrace police chief in 2000.

Powers, 50, has been a member of the department since 1980. She was promoted to deputy chief in 2002.
