TAMPA PALMS - The New Tampa Family YMCA's annual Passport to Paradise will have a football theme, Saturday Night Lights.
The event, set for 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 4, will raise money to assist children with special physical and financial needs who otherwise could not afford the benefits of the YMCA.
The fundraiser will be at the YMCA at 16221 Compton Drive. It will feature food and drinks, as well as a silent and live auction, dancing and live televised sporting events. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite team jersey.
Each year, the New Tampa Family YMCA provides more than $300,000 in scholarship support to families in the New Tampa area that otherwise would be unable to afford the YMCA. The scholarships send children to summer camp and provide swim lessons.
Ginger Bean is the volunteer event chairwoman. The committee members are Arlene Alicea, Lyn Acer, Jennifer Bakunas, Connie Bladon, David Friday, Debbie Maronic, Pete Radeka and Amy Rainey.

Krewe Raising Money For Shoes
NORTH TAMPA - The Krewe of Alegria will host its fifth annual Bike Night at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the L.A. Hangout, 16411 N. Florida Ave.
Dyann "Rocky" Valdez is the founder and president of the organization.
The proceeds will benefit Alegria's Kickin' for Kids fund, which provides shoes for children in need in the Tampa Bay area.

Club Provides Supplies, Seeks Vendors
TEMPLE TERRACE - The Temple Terrace Junior Woman's Club recently donated school supplies to Riverhills Elementary.
"The club had a school supply drive and wanted to donate to the school we felt needed help the most," education chairwoman Jeannie Waterman wrote in an e-mail.
Club members will hold their annual Book Exchange on Oct. 4 during the Terrace Reads event at Temple Terrace Elementary.
The club also will host a vendor fair, Harvest Jubilee, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Woodmont Clubhouse, 415 Woodmont Ave.

Scholarship, Charities Benefit From Show
WEST SHORE - The Pan American University Women organization will celebrate its 69th anniversary at the PAUW 2008 Fashion Show/Luncheon on Saturday at the Tampa Airport Hilton, 2225 Lois Ave.
Tana Levinson, the group's vice president, is chairwoman of the event, which begins with a silent auction at 11 a.m. Lunch is at noon, and the fashion show is at 1 p.m.
Joann Torretta Guagliardo, president and owner of First Impressions Image and Modeling Studio, is the fashion show producer and moderator. Fashions will be provided by Gary Platt, general manager of Dillard's at International Plaza.
Pan American members and their families who will model include Nuri Ayres, Sophia Ayres, Ian Ayres, JoAnn Duran, Jenna Duran, Joann G. Guagliardo, Susan Jenkins, Rick Jenkins, Bryce Jenkins, Loree Semler, Caroline Semler, Mimi Talcott, Angeline Talcott Howell, Kimberly Valdes and Mathew Valdes. First Impression models are Kaayla Campbell, MacKenzie Gaudette, Jamie Miller, Olivia Smith and Kevin Williams.
Robb Smith is the announcer. Tampa artist Joyce Lazzara is donating one of her paintings.
Proceeds will benefit two University of South Florida Latino Scholarships, the Judeo Christian Health Clinic, Children's Cancer Center, Ybor City Museum Society and Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Fashion show committee members include Judy Blanco, Shirley Colmenares, RoseAnne Bowers, Sonia Spoto, Diana Mangione, Nora Lamb, Mimi Talcott, Mary Caltagirone, Sandra Sierra, Diana Fernandez, Nuri Ayres, Marie Valenti, Charlotte Valenti, Nancy White and Levinson.
Nuri Ayres is president of the organization; Blanco is president-elect.

Chamber Plans Networking Socials
TEMPLE TERRACE - The Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce will hold an open house and networking social from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Inn, 12260 Morris Bridge Road.
Representatives from home businesses and the Fairfield Inn will present information about their products and services.
The chamber also will hold a networking social Sept. 30 to celebrate the grand reopening of Terrace Sports. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at 5311 E. Busch Blvd.

Orchid Society Meets Thursday
SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Michael Sinn, owner of Canaima Orchids in Palmetto, will speak at Thursday's meeting of the Tampa Bay Orchid Society.

Event Benefits MacDonald Center
TAMPA - All That Glitters, the annual wine, beer and food tasting benefiting the MacDonald Training Center, will include new elements this year.
The event, set for 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 27 at TPepin's Hospitality Centre, 4121 N. 50th St., will feature interactive cooking demonstrations by local chefs, including Fabrizio Schenardi of Pelagia Trattoria. The fundraiser also will include The Best Chocolate Cake in Town contest. Participants will bring partially finished cakes and add the decorations in front of the guests.
All That Glitters also will include live music, live and silent auctions, and samples from more than 20 restaurants and caterers. Mitchell's Fish Market, Timpano Chophouse, NoHo Bistro and Chavez at Home are among the participants.
The MacDonald Training Center, established in 1953, serves adults with disabilities.

Comedy Night Benefits Education
DOWNTOWN TAMPA - The eighth annual Comedy Night, sponsored by the Hillsborough Education Foundation, will feature comedians Brian Bradley and Patrick Garrity.
The event will be 8 p.m. Thursday at the Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St. Randy James of The James Law Group, is chairman of the event, which will benefit programs for at-risk students.

Rotaract President To Speak At Rotary
Robin Roup, president of the Rotaract Club at the University of South Florida, will speak at Friday's meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.
