TAMPA PALMS - The Tampa Palms Women's Club plans two events in this month to fund charity projects.
The annual fashion show and luncheon benefit will be April 16 at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
The social time and silent auction is at 11 a.m., and the lunch and show will be at 11:30 a.m. with door prizes awarded.
Dillard's of Wiregrass will provide the fashions, to be modeled by women's club members and members of Outreach Assisting Students in Schools (OASIS) network. OASIS will receive the proceeds of the event.
Tickets are $22 each, and tables of 10 are available. For information, call Anita Hampson at (813) 979-4588.
The club also will sponsor a community yard and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 25 at Compton Park, 16101 Compton Drive. Proceeds will benefit the club's University of South Florida scholarship program.

Church Secretaries Honored At Breakfast
TEMPLE TERRACE - Church secretaries from Temple Terrace were honored last week at a special breakfast given by Terrace Oaks Funeral Home.
The March 24 event was coordinated by Grace Terry Judy Wabol and part of Church Secretaries Week in Temple Terrace from March 22-28.
"We know they are the glue that holds the church together," Terry said. "We just wanted to honor them."
Terry said that church secretaries are called to a ministry to help with all the needs of the church - visiting sick, making arrangements for services, keeping calendars, producing the church bulletin and talking with members and those in need.
At the breakfast the secretaries shared stories about the role they play and the importance of a welcoming atmosphere.
Donna Orlowski of Thonotosassa United Methodist Church said, "I am the first person they meet when they walk into the church."
Other guests were Betty LeGrade of Fowler Avenue Baptist Church; Mary McCarter of West Thonotosassa Baptist Church; and McCarter's mother, Nina Crosson, who assists her with duties.
Terry said she planned to take a small gift to secretaries unable to attend.
Luncheon To Feature Cokie Roberts
DOWNTOWN - Cokie Roberts, a political commentator for ABC News and senior news analyst for National Public Radio, will be the speaker at a luncheon sponsored by the Tampa Chamber of Commerce and WUSF Public Broadcasting.
The event will be at 11:15 a.m. April 16 at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S. Franklin St.

Free Family Festival Set For Saturday
TEMPLE TERRACE - The Belmont Baptist Church will have its second Family Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Cancer Society Programs Featured At Meeting
HUNTER'S GREEN - The American Cancer Society's Heather Figueroa will speak at the April 9 meeting of the North East Women in Business.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Hunter's Green Golf & Country Club, 18101 Longwater Run Drive. Figueroa will speak about the programs and services offered by the cancer society.
Tickets are $22 for members and $25 for guests by Friday. . - Afterward, the cost increases $3 for each.

Best Of Tampa Bay Scheduled Saturday
DOWNTOWN TAMPA - More than 40 restaurants, caterers and vendors will provide food and beverage samples at Saturday's Taste of Tampa Bay.
The 24th annual event will be at 7 p.m. at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and along the Hillsborough Riverfront. GrillSmith, Oystercatchers, The Columbia and Blue Bell Creameries are among the participants in the taste, which benefits the arts center's education and outreach program.

Camp Rotary Topic At Rotary
HUNTER'S GREEN - Jim Hamilton will discuss Rotary's Camp for children with medical, physical, mental and emotional illnesses at Thursday's meeting of the New Tampa Rotary Evening meeting.
