Kirstin Austin, a King High senior and member of the girl's softball team, was presented a first-time award this year for demonstrating excellence on the softball field and in the classroom.
The newly named Principal and Coaches Top Athlete Award was bestowed to Kirstin by Principal Carla Bruning and girls softball coach Heather Castle.
The award will be presented annually to an exemplary senior student-athlete who exceeds in sports and the classroom.
Kirstin, who earned a 6.2 grade point average, leads the softball team in almost every record. She has signed an athletic scholarship to play softball at Florida Atlantic University, where she will continue her education in the field of exercise science.
