Weekend brings Sand and Snow

TEMPLE TERRACE - The Florida College Student Center will be transformed into Club Morocco for the second celebration of Sand and Snow.

The era will be the Roaring Twenties when the Florida College Jazz Ensemble presents a special program at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Guest singers and instrumentalists will join the ensemble for holiday music at 119 N. Glen Arven Ave.

Tickets are $15 per person and include a choice of homemade desserts, hot coffee and a cup of Castilian hot chocolate. Reservations may be made for individuals or groups, as well as for tables of eight.

Seating is limited to 80 people each evening. Call Sharon Clark for reservations at (813) 899-6741.

Sims' fundraiser benefits youngsters

WEST SHORE - Ryan Sims, a defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will host a holiday fundraiser to benefit Bay area youngsters in foster care.

The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Blue Martini in International Plaza. Proceeds will go to The Children's Home and Bay Springs Inc.

Sims is the founder of the Ryan Sims Foundation, which "supports the fight against cancer and raises awareness about prevention, treatment and survival." It also assists underprivileged children and youth programs in Spartanburg, S.C., and Tampa. Cathleen C. Laporte is the executive director.

Other organizations assisting with the event are Athletes for Charity, The Crescent Foundation Inc., Z-Hope Foundation Inc. and the Tampa alumni chapters of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

The suggested donation for the event is $25. All donations are tax deductible.

'Vintage Tampa' author to sign books

FOREST HILLS - The Forest Hills Neighborhood Association will present author John V. Cinchett signing copies of his new book, "Vintage Tampa Signs and Scenes," a pictorial collection of 200 historic Tampa photos of the 1950s.

The event, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, will also feature a special exhibit of 1950s Tampa memorabilia and rare 1950s film footage.

The event will be at Forest Hills Recreation Center, 724 W. 109th Ave., and is free to attend. For information, call (813) 935-8488.

Healthy living is topic at Rotary

HUNTER'S GREEN - Jonathon Berns, director of the Natural Healthy Living clinic and chief administrator of LifeSource Family Chiropractic in Wesley Chapel, will speak at the new Tampa Evening Rotary on Thursday.

Rotary meets at Mort Elementary
