Thursday

Party to be a big splash

See and be seen at Aqua Eve, The Florida Aquarium's New Year's Eve party, at 9 p.m. at the aquarium, 701 Channelside Drive.

Enjoy live entertainment, food, beer and wine, underwater wonders and a view of the midnight fireworks. You must be 21 or older to attend.

The cost is $90 for entrance to the party or $160 for the party and a fireworks cruise. For details and to purchase tickets, go to www.flaquarium.org.

Owen rings in new year
Gary Owen hosts the Tampa Improv's New Year's Eve Dinner Show at 7:30 p.m. and New Year's Celebration Show at 10 p.m. at 1600 E. Eighth Ave. in Ybor City.

Owen has performed at many major comedy venues across America.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the dinner buffet. The cost of the buffet and show is $45 per person, or $28 for the show only. A limited menu will be available after 8 p.m.

The cost of the New Year's Celebration Show is $40 per person, and includes free champagne and party favors. Both shows are for ages 21 and older. For ticket information, call (813) 864-4000 or visit www.tampa improv.com.

Relive 1979 at Skipper's

WMNF, 88.5 FM, celebrates its 30 years on public radio with a New Year's tribute to 1979 at 7 p.m. at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road.

Bands of today will perform as bands popular in 1979.

The lineup includes Johnny Zoom and the Cheerleader Squad as Elvis Costello; Will Quinlan and the Diviners as Neil Young; Ted Lukas and the Misled as Tom Petty; Barely Pink as Cheap Trick; Sons of Hippies as Blondie; Talk to Mark as The Cars; Palantine as The Clash; Urbane Cowboys as Joe Jackson; Captain Obvious and Duh! Patrol as AC/DC; Rebekah Pulley and the Reluctant Prophets as Supertramp; Ricky Wilcox as Graham Parker; DJ CenFlo and Ryan Bauer (a producer for TBO) as The Sugarhill Gang; Jeremy Gloff as Stevie Nicks; and the Vodkanauts will wrap it up by playing one-hit wonders.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 the day of the show and available in person at Skipper's or online at www.wmnf.org.

Saturday

Calling all art lovers

Kick off the new year with a stroll through the artists' studios of Ybor City at the first Ybor Art Walk from noon to 6 p.m. along the sidewalks of Ybor City.

More than 18 galleries and cultural venues will be open for the free walk, as well as the Saturday Market. Guides are available at the Ybor Art Colony and other venues.
