TEMPLE TERRACE - Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 304 Druid Hills Road, will celebrate its 25th anniversary with events this weekend.
The celebration begins at 5 p.m. Saturday with a fellowship time in the church's social hall. The kickoff is followed by dinner at 6. The program includes entertainment, storytelling and a history of the congregation, which has included Christ the King Lutheran Church and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children age 11 and younger. They are available by calling the church at (813) 988-4025.
Sunday, there will be an anniversary worship service at 10 a.m. with former pastors Lavern Franzen, Justin Kollmeyer and Bruce Modahl.
The church regularly meets at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sundays and offers an American bluegrass service, with banjo, oboe and fiddle, on the first Sunday of each month. Dianne Koenig is the anniversary celebration chairwoman.
Local Chapter Marks 100 Years Of NAACP
TAMPA - The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will have its 100th anniversary Monday and several activities are planned by the 92-year-old Hillsborough County chapter.
They include a birthday celebration at the HipHopSodaShop, 1214 E. Fowler Ave., from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Sam Wright is the chairman. The cost is $5 and $3 for students with identification.
Other events are:
The WIN Breakfast, sponsored by the Women In NAACP Committee. The event will be from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 2002 N. Rome Ave. Cost is $10.
The breakfast will be in conjunction with a free health fair from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, as well as a legal redress forum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
An education forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 12 at Middleton High School, 4810 N. 22nd St. There is no charge to attend.
A rededication service at 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 506 Harrison St.
A centennial gala at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at Higgins Hall, 5225 N. Himes Ave. The $100 fee includes an annual membership in the organization. Pat Spencer is the chairwoman.

Parks Meeting Includes Leisure Services Director
James Chambers, director of Leisure Services for the city of Temple Terrace, will speak at Thursday's meeting of the Friends of Temple Terrace Parks and Recreation.

Friendship Club Meets Tuesday
Spanish guitarist Daniel Giron will perform as part of the Temple Terrace Friendship Club meeting on Tuesday.

Krewes Prepare For Gasparilla
TAMPA - The annual Gasparilla pirate invasion and parade is Saturday and local krewe members will be busy with parties before and after the celebration.

The Krewe of F Troop Kickoff for Gasparilla Social. The event, open to all krewes, will be at 5:30 p.m. today at Jackson's Bistro on Harbour Island.
The Krewe of Shamrock's Party Like a Pirate All-Krewe Social. The event will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Gaspar's Bar & Grill, 8448 N. 56th St. The event will include karaoke and live music.
The Krewe of Rough Riders' Night Before Gasparilla Invasion Party. It is from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Embassy Suites downtown, 513 S. Florida Ave. Dress is Gasparilla festive and krewe casual. The event includes a buffet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and live music. Tickets are $35 in advance and reservations are required. The krewes of St. Florian, Mustang Sallies and Ryders, Charlotte de Berry and Cigar City will have an all-krewe social at 7 p.m. Friday at Banana Joe's Channelside, 615 Channelside Drive. The cost is $10 at the door and proceeds benefit Krewes Kare.
The Krewe of St. Florian will have its fourth annual Pelota de Fuego at the Tampa Firefighters Museum, 720 E. Zack St., at 5 p.m. Saturday.
The event will include food, beer, wine and a band. Tickets are $25 at the door with proceeds benefiting the museum.
Health Care To Be Topic At Rotary Meeting
TAMPA PALMS - John W. Lesar, former public health official for the state, will speak at Friday's meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.
Lesar will compare the U.S. health care system with others around the world at the 7 a.m. meeting at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
