Drought, Water Conservation Are Focus Of Meeting

TEMPLE TERRACE - Ed Hobin from the Southwest Florida Water Management District will speak about the drought, water conservation and restrictions on watering at Thursday's meeting of The Friends of Temple Terrace Parks and Recreation.

The 7 p.m. event at the Lightfoot Recreation Center, 10901 N. 56th St., includes a business meeting after the presentation. It is open to the public at no charge.

The organization, which lends support to the parks department and environmental issues, is seeking new members to help with projects, including building a new bat tower in Temple Terrace.

Andy Bowen Speaks At Writers Alliance

NORTH TAMPA - Andy Bowen, author of "A Tree's Christmas," will speak at today'smeeting of the Tampa Writers Alliance.

The meeting, open to the public, is at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 11802 N. Dale Mabry Highway.

Nonprofit Groups Honored At Luncheon

DANA SHORES - Numerous nonprofit organizations will be honored - with one named Non-Profit Organization of the Year - at the fourth annual WEDU Be More Awards event.

The luncheon and awards ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 15 at the A La Carte Event pavilion, 4050 Dana Shores Drive. Highlights from the ceremony will be featured in a WEDU, Channel 3, special next month.

As part of the event, the Bank of Tampa Hall of Heroes begins at 11 am. It will showcase more than 36 organizations, which will have a display and information about their services. The luncheon, with Jack Harris as the master of ceremonies, is at noon.

Tickets are $50 per person, $600 for community heroes table for 10, and $1,000 for a philanthropist table of 10.

Rough Riders Hosts Social, Karaoke Contest
CHANNEL DISTRICT - The Rough Riders will host an all-krewe Pre-Gasparilla Social on Jan. 16 at Stump's Supper Club in Channelside.

The event includes a social time from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. when krewe members can exchange parade beads and pins. Music for dancing will be provided.

Crisis Center Topic Of Presentation

TAMPA PALMS - Sue Levitt, vice president of the Hillsborough Crisis Center, will speak at Friday's meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.

Levitt will tell about the work of the center in the community at the 7 a.m. meeting at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
