Grateful Dead tribute

Calling all Dead Heads. Rock with Uncle John's Band at Grateful Dead nights on Thursdays. Show begins at 5 p.m. at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road.

Jazz with Jim

The Carrollwood Cultural Center hosts Jazz with Jim Burge from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 4537 Lowell Road. The concert's theme is essence of jazz, with all the tunes starting with "S."

Coinciding with the concert is an art exhibit by Howard Kanter. Call (813) 269-1310.

Sordid Lives

The Carrollwood Players is hosting the comedy "Sordid Lives" through Aug. 10 at the Carrollwood Playhouse, 4335 Gunn Highway. The play contains adult themes.

Kids In Charge birthday

Celebrate the fourth year of Museum of Science & Industry's Kids In Charge program.

The Flintstones, Scooby Doo and Tweety Bird are expected during the birthday bash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum, 4801 E. Fowler Ave. A new exhibit, "Animation," will open during the party.

Sunday

Care to dance?

Join Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse on the big screen during a showing of "The Band Wagon" at 3 p.m. at the Tampa Theatre, 711 N Franklin St.

The 1953 film features Astaire doing some his classic dance numbers such as "Triplets," "Girl Hunt" and "Dancing in the Dark."

All weekend

Serengeti night safari

Take a two-hour tour and get a glimpse of what the African Serengeti is like at Busch Gardens.

The event begins at 9 p.m. with appetizers at the Safari Lounge and is followed by a guided tour of the hippos, lions, and hyenas. The tour is on select Fridays and Saturdays.
