TEMPLE TERRACE - The city clerk was recently elected to the board of directors of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
Lisa Burns will serve a three-year term on the 26-member board as Region III director, an area that represents Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Appointed city clerk in 2004, Burns earned the designation of master municipal clerk in 2006. Also an active member of the Florida Association of City Clerks for many years, she served as president in 2006-07 and received the President's Award in 2002 and 2008.
Prior to being hired as Temple Terrace Deputy Clerk in 2000, she served eight years as clerk/treasurer in Howey-in-the-Hills and held a similar position from 1989 to 1991 in Winter Park, Colo.
Founded in 1947, the international nonprofit association is composed of more than 10,000 members from throughout North America and 15 other countries. The organization helps members meet the responsibilities of their profession through continuing education opportunities.
