Go Green At St. Paddy's Day Dance

TEMPLE TERRACE - The Rhapsody Ballroom goes green March 14 with a dance in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.

The ballroom, 12101 N. 56{+t}{+h} St., will offer swing dancing, line dances, country and disco in a holiday-theme event for St. Patrick's Day.

The event is open to singles or couples, but all attendees are encouraged to wear green.

Dance lessons are at 7 p.m. and the dancing is from 8 to 11 p.m.

Woman's Club Seeks Nominees

The Temple Terrace Woman's Club is accepting nominations for the Fran Barford Public Service Award.

This annual award honors a person who has made a large contribution to the Temple Terrace community. It is named for the first woman elected mayor of Temple Terrace and a club member.

The award will be presented at the club's spring luncheon May 27. The 2008 recipient was James Chambers, director of the city's parks and recreation department.

The nominee must be a past or current city of Temple Terrace employee, a current or former official of the city, or a person who is serving or has served on boards appointed by the city. The individual does not have to be a Temple Terrace resident. The nomination can be made by a club, organization or an individual.
Nomination forms are available at the City Clerk's office, the Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce office or by calling (813) 988-1290 or (813) 988-6975. Nominations must be received by March 31.
Fashion Events Are Plentiful

WESTSHORE - Spring attire is appearing in the stores and two events showcase the clothes while raising money for local charities. They are:

•Dressing To The Nines, a fashion trends show and luncheon, will be presented by Neiman Marcus as part of the store's Spring 2009 Fashion Week events.

The event will be at the International Plaza store from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 11. Tickets are $25 per person with proceeds to benefit the MacDonald Training Center, a nonprofit organization serving adults with disabilities in the Tampa Bay area since 1953. •Fashion Funds the Cure, benefiting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at WestShore Plaza's Saks Fifth Avenue.

The event will include an evening of shopping, food and drinks, a silent auction and fashion show. Some of the models are girls who have battled cancer.

This year's celebrity host is Carson Kressley of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" fame. He is now the host of "How To Look Good Naked." Other local celebrities expected to attend are players from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning and Rays, as well as other local media personalities.

ORT Group Meets Tuesday

NORTH TAMPA - A program about medications and wellness will be presented when the Bay Horizons Chapter of Women's American ORT (Organization for Educational Resources and Technological Training) meets Tuesday.

The 11 a.m. meeting, open to members and guests, will be at the Perkins Restaurant, 5002 E. Fowler Ave., where lunch can be ordered from the menu.

Former Foster Child Featured At Luncheon

DOWNTOWN TAMPA - Andrew Bridge will be the keynote speaker at the March 13 Child Abuse Awareness Luncheon, sponsored by the Friends of Joshua House.

Bridge spent 11 years in Los Angeles County foster care, then went on to graduate from Harvard Law School. Bridge's memoir, "Hope's Boy," is the account of his life with his mother, a young mentally ill woman, of her efforts to keep and care for him and of his life in foster care without her.

The event is from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Tampa Marriott Waterside, 700 S. Florida Ave. Tickets are $50 each and corporate sponsorships are available. For information, contact DeDe Grundel at (813) 263-3469.

Banking Crisis Is Topic At Rotary

TAMPA PALMS - Steve Martin, vice president of the Bank of Tampa, will speak at Friday's 7 a.m. meeting of the Rotary Club of New Tampa.

Martin, a member of the club, will speak about the banking crisis at the meeting at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd.
