NEW TAMPA - The North Tampa Art League presents Jack Beverland, a self-taught Southern folk artist who is also known as Mr. B, as the March Artist of the Month at the Great Frame Up.
The exhibit will be on display throughout the month from 6 to 9 p.m. daily at the shop, which is at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and State Road 56.
Beverland's paintings tell a story through a unique style of art. His artwork is textured, touchable and glows in the dark, with a beautiful use of color.
He lives in San Antonio in Pasco County and has been included in "Who's Who in American Art," "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who in the World." He has been mentioned in such books as Kristin G. Congdon's "Just Above the Water: Florida Folk Art" and Gary Monroe's "Extraordinary Interpretations: Florida's Self-Taught Artists."
Beverland is the registered artist for VSA Arts of Florida, an organization for physically challenged artists. He conducts workshops for children and adults who want to learn about art.
He donates as many as 10 paintings to charity a year, including to the Tampa Mayor's Beautification Program, Creative Clay of St. Petersburg, the Heart Foundation, Vero Beach Center for the Arts, the Youth Choral Theater of Chicago and the International School of Louisiana, a charter school.
