A Tampa Tribune story posted on TBO.com about Hillsborough County's plan to install red light cameras this summer and a proposal to expand Temple Terrace's one-year program from two intersections to possibly four or five generated a flurry of comments.
Opinions were fairly widespread on red light cameras, but talk of an expanded Temple Terrace program drew the ire of users who commented.
Here is a sample of what some of your neighbors said:
"Florida drivers act like red lights are optional. They need them on every street corner until they learn that red means stop and green, by the same token, means go. For some reason Florida drivers have reversed the green and red lights."

"I actually received a ticket at the 56th Street and Bullard Parkway light and refuse to pay it. The miniature sign was difficult to see, and I didn't even notice it until after I received the ticket in the mail. By the way, I didn't pay it or fight it. The worst they can do is have it put on your credit report. It is a money-making scheme and that is all!"

"This isn't about safety. It is about making money. It seems kind of funny that in Arizona, where this company is based, cities are taking down these systems because they were deemed ineffective and unconstitutional. But here, the almighty dollar wins again."

"Some of you seem to forget that you have no 'right' to drive a vehicle. It's a privilege, and it can be taken away. Don't run a red light, and you won't get a ticket. If you feel the light changes too quickly, time it and video it, and then check with FDOT Florida Department of Transportation to see if traffic standards have been ignored."

"Complaints have poured in so now they are considering expanding the program. Now that's government for the people by the people. Nice job Temple Terrace. Vote the bums out!"

"I reside in Temple Terrace, and yes, my son was ticketed for this infraction. I am not apologizing or excusing his deed, but let's call it what it is: a money grab. So, here is my family's protest, and it is considerable. We do not eat at any of the restaurants within the city limits of Temple Terrace. Imagine the tax revenue they lose. We are a family of five, and like most, we eat many of our meals in restaurants, fast-food or otherwise. Hit them where it hurts. Again, I am not for breaking laws, but I am against big and bigger government."

"Bring it on, it's about time. You belly aching fools pray that you or your loved one doesn't ever become a victim of a red-light runner. Red means stop. Pay attention and obey the law."
