NEW TAMPA - The artwork of John Henne, a founder of the North Tampa Arts League, is featured this month at the New Tampa Regional Library.
His acrylic paintings of wildlife, landscapes and human figures are on display near the entrance of the library, 10001 Cross Creek Blvd., during business hours.
Henne, who lives in New Tampa, characterizes his style as contemporary realism, drawing from realistic and abstract approaches.
The Sarasota County native has sketched and painted for most of his life. He began painting full-time after a career in the corporate world. He has studied at the University of South Florida and Hillsborough Community College.
Henne said his strongest influences have been realist artists who paint in the bravura style, such as John Singer Sargent, Frank Benson, Richard Schmidt and Harley Brown.
Henne said he focuses on creating intriguing and appealing art.
In addition to being a founder of the North Tampa Arts League, Henne has served as past president and is a board member. He also is a member of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County's Artists Advisory Committee.
The New Tampa library is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; noon to 8 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
