USAA plans expansion at its Tampa office

TAMPA - USAA's topsy-turvy growth in Tampa is taking another turn.

The financial services company plans on adding 200 more jobs to its current ranks of 1,772 workers in Tampa, adding a banking and investment operation to the company's current insurance work.

Company executives say at least 80 of those 200 new jobs will be added from outside the company, with the rest likely coming from other USAA locations, or people already with USAA in Tampa. A formal announcement is set for this afternoon.

This comes after a February announcement that USAA would bring 400 new jobs to Tampa. In April the company disclosed the figure would be lower, although it would not say by how much.

Based in San Antonio, Tex., USAA is a membership organization, serving military families with auto insurance, investment and other financial services. USAA stands for United Services Automobile Association, though it generally goes by the name USAA in the market.

The vast majority of current USAA workers in Tampa work with auto and home insurance products for USAA members. The company's main location is at 17200 Commerce Park Blvd. in New Tampa near Interstate-75 and County Road 581.
