Check out the chamber of commerce's Holiday Extravaganza

NEW TAMPA - The New Tampa Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its Holiday Extravaganza to showcase local merchants from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Holiday Inn Express, 8310 Galbraith Road..

About 50 exhibitors are expected to offer products, services and gift certificate ideas at the first-time event.

The free event also will include a contest for the best decorated holiday booth, with attendees doing the judging.

The event also will serve as the inaugural annual meeting for the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

Orchid expo is this weekend

USF CAMPUS - The Tampa Orchid Club will sponsor its annual Orchid Expo this weekend with vendors selling orchids and related products.

The event is at the University of South Florida Botanical Gardens with hours from noon to 3 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be orchid lectures at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Luncheon raises money for nonprofit

YBOR CITY - It's All About Kids, which serves the University Area, will have its annual fundraising luncheon Nov. 2 in recognition and honor of its sponsors, partners and supporters.

The event will be at the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, 1002 E. Palm Ave. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m., and the program will be at 11:30.

A silent auction, exhibits, recognition awards and an appearance by the organization's mascot, Buzz the Bumble Bee, are planned as part of luncheon to raise money for afterschool programs for children and parents.

Vegas Night benefits Scouts

DOWNTOWN - The Boy Scouts of America's Gulf Ridge Council will have its first Vegas Night from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Hyatt Regency downtown, 211 N. Tampa St.

The event will include music, a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, and casino games beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Rotary has general meeting

HUNTER'S GREEN - New Tampa Evening Rotary will have a general assembly meeting Thursday.

TAMPA PALMS - Christopher Ingram, president of 411 Communications, will speak Friday at the Rotary Club of New Tampa meeting.

It's time for Oktoberfest

TEMPLE TERRACE - Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School will sponsor its 10th annual Oktoberfest from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Music and food are highlights of the celebration, which will be at 304 Druid Hills Road. The event will include a German oom-pah band consisting of five University of South Florida music students plus the church pastor, Wally Meyer, playing his accordion.

Children's activities include a rock climbing wall, bouncy houses, a giant slide, face painting and turkey bowling. Thirty vendors and crafters will exhibit their merchandise, offering a chance for some early holiday shopping.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 the day of the event. A dinner of bratwurst, sauerkraut and German potato salad and a dessert, live music and a souvenir cup are included.
