TAMPA PALMS - With village entryway makeovers nearly completed, community leaders have set their sights on sprucing up street signs peppering Tampa Palms Areas 1 and 2.
The Tampa Palms Community Development District has expanded the role of the landscape architecture firm Hardeman-Kempton & Associates to serve as design agent for the Tampa Palms street sign project.
The district's board of supervisors, the taxing authority that approved funding for the decorative monument entranceway rehabilitation work, agreed last week to award Hardeman-Kempton $12,500 to work with the district on the project.
"It's an extraordinary project," district consultant Maggie Wilson said. "It touches everybody in Tampa Palms" Areas 1 and 2.
The remodeled monuments have a cap of molded brick above the face of the sign, which will be black granite etched with gold lettering.
The designed community street signs will look similar, with gold lettering on a black background.
Wilson urged the board to hire Hardeman-Kempton, a company with a proven track record with the district board.
"We are putting 150 signs on public roads," she said. "They have to meet all the specifications, or we will have to do it again."
Supervisor Randy Marlowe agreed. "I think it's a wonderful idea," he said.
Other board members chimed in support.
Supervisor Bill Shimer called it "an excellent project." Chairman Gene Field noted its high impact on the community.
Marlowe's motion passed 4-0. Supervisor Patty Maney was absent.
