TAMPA - About 200 people showed up today for a motorcycle ride to honor a Hillsborough County Sheriff's sergeant killed while on duty two years ago.
Sgt. Ron Harrison, 55, died after being shot while en route to a DUI checkpoint near State Road 60 and Kings Avenue in Brandon.
The Ride for Ron Memorial, which also was a fundraiser for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, went from the University of South Florida Sun Dome to O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 701 Lumsden Road, Brandon -- at the southwest corner of the intersection where Harrison was shot.
Among the bikers was Harrison's sister, Artesa Bohannon.
"This is just overwhelming," she said. "The outpouring here is unbelievable."
