I am frightened. If we vote "yes," we keep Spring Hill Fire Rescue Board commissioners who put down Spring Hill citizens and rubber stamp the firefighter union requests. If we vote "no," the Spring Hill fire board will be dissolved and I, as a Spring Hill resident, can go before the Hernando County commissioners and be treated with respect and allowed to request oversight on the excessive spending of Spring Hill Fire Rescue District. ...more

In the article "A Financial Day of Reckoning for America" Oct. 6 by Patrick Buchanan it stated: "In a democracy it is said, you get the kind of government you deserve." But what did the American people do to deserve this? If you were one of the more than 40 percent of the citizens who receive government largess, who would you vote for? A: A liberal who promises more and bigger largess or B: A conservative who promises to wean you off the largess? An untrained mind is a dangerous thing to use. How many who want more government welfare and subsidies know what the latent effects of those government programs are or don't they really care? ...more

In response to questions surrounding why Congressman Tim Mahoney voted in favor of the House bill providing a record bailout to the financial institutions, Mahoney replied: "This really was more about Main Street than it was about Wall Street, and what a lot of people don't realize is the interconnectivity between the two, and that's something that was lost on some of my colleagues." Is that what it is all about? Here I thought it was about Mahoney coming to the rescue of his special interests buddies, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, from which he has received thousands and thousands of dollars worth of campaign contributions. I guess he forgot to mention that in all of his quotes and interviews, but I can see what he means about this not having to do with Wall Street. I mean who would want to talk about how they are deep in the pocket of special interest groups? ...more
